Janelle Eyet, Assistant Superintendent Educational Services (returning)
Janelle has been with the MUSD for 11 years and manages Student Services Department and oversee the Ed Services Team. She will also be taking on responsibilities involving communications and public relations She is responsible for oversight of Mental Health Services (non IEP), Student Wellness, Attendance, Discipline, enrollment, residency, professional development for administration and any matter related to student welfare. Amy Espinoza, Director of Educational Services (new)
Amy Espinoza has been in public education for twenty-three years, serving students and families in the Central Valley and East Bay. She earned a Bachelor of Science Degree and a Master’s Degree in Administration and Supervision from California State University Fresno. She worked as a teacher, instructional coach, county office administrator, site leader, and district leader. Most recently, she has served as the Director of Special Services for the Walnut Creek School District. She has had varied experiences in her different roles, including being involved in strategic planning and negotiations. Additionally, she served on the Climate and Culture Committee, the Equity Committee, and Program Indicator Review Teams. Amy is thrilled to join the Martinez Unified School District. She looks forward to working with a dynamic team and a diverse community to ensure the success of students in a K-12 district. Dr. Dan Scudero, Director of Personnel (returning)
Dr. Daniel Scudero, Ed.D joined the MUSD last May and came to us from the Mt. Diablo Unified School District where he worked as the Director of Human since July of 2020. His focus in Mt. Diablo was predominantly on traditional negotiations and helping employees survive the stressors of the COVID pandemic. He also worked to coordinate efforts in recruiting, selection, compensation, evaluation, discipline and dismissal. Prior to Mt. Diablo, Daniel was the Principal of American Canyon Middle School in Napa, CA for 13 years. During his tenure at American Canyon, Daniel provided the Instructional Leadership needed to transform the school into a Technology Infused Project Based Learning School, which included developing strategies to support El and Sped students as well. Daniel, a published researcher on trust building strategies, earned his Bachelor of Arts in Chemistry with a minor in Biology from UC Davis, His Masters of Education, Educational Management from the University of La Verne, and his Doctorate of Education in Organizational Leadership from Brandman University. Mr. Andy Cannon, Chief Business Official (returning)
Andy Cannon has completed his first year as the CBO. He came to us from the Antioch Unified School District where he worked for 22 years, starting as a teacher and working his way up to the Director of Federal Programs and Accountability. Andy quickly learned the ins and outs of the District, in terms of facilities and support, bonds and construction, food service and of course, the world of school finance. Joseph Gengler Director of Information and Educational Technology (returning)
Joseph Gengler has been with the MUSD, just shy of one year. Joe earned a Bachelor's degree in Business Administration with a concentration in management of information systems and a Master's degree in Business Administration from Cal State Sacramento. He comes to us from Antioch Unified School District where worked for the past 6 years,most recently in the role of technology director, leading a technology department that serves 24 schools and 15,000 students. Prior to Antioch, he worked as an IT Services Manager in Sacramento for 7 years. Joe is a graduate of Antioch High School and grew up in the Antioch community where both of his parents and his sister were educators. However, since moving back to the East Bay, he and his wife have made their home in Martinez. He looks forward to serving his new community and making a difference in the education of his neighbor’s children. Dr. Betty Lin, Director II Special Education (new)
Please join me in welcoming Betty Lin to the MUSD. Betty earned a Doctorate in Educational Leadership from Mills College. She earned her Bachelor's Degree from UC Berkeley and Masters Degrees from Mills College. She has a multiple subject credential, an early childhood special education credential, and an administrative credential. She is a Certified Child Life specialist. She has been an educator for 26 years, and a public school administrator for 7 years. She has worked as an infant development specialist, an elementary school teacher, an education specialist, an administrator, and an adjunct professor. She is a Chinese American immigrant who is bilingual and bicultural. She takes her responsibility seriously as a professional working with vulnerable children and their families, dealing with intense emotions, shuffling through mountains of paperwork, and maneuvering through bureaucracy. As a new member of the Martinez Unified School District, she looks forward to continuing the work of creating a school community that functions as an equalizer for students of all abilities and disabilities, race, gender, age, religion, sexual orientation, ethnicity, national origin, language, and socioeconomic status. Ann Kim, Program Specialist (new)
Ann Kim joins the Martinez Unified School District with more than 28 years of experience in the education profession. She has a background in both general and special education as well as in school administration. Ann earned her Bachelor’s Degree at the University of Alaska Southwest and her Master of Arts from Chapman University. Ann spent six years as the principal at Lafayette Elementary school. As an equity leader, Ann worked at the district level to ensure that board policy reflected parity in education for all students. As a principal and special educator, Ann is very proud of the relationships that she builds with parents and IEP teams. She recognizes that navigating the IEP process can be overwhelming for families and her goal is to ensure that all families feel supported and comfortable. She works from a lens of student strengths and appreciates the unique talents of each student. Ann is looking forward to supporting the students, teachers, and specialists who serve the needs of our students in special education as a program specialist in Martinez.
